Are you old enough to remember when it was “okay” for our favorite TV celebrities (like Dean Martin and Johnny Carson) to smoke cigarettes on-camera?  Or when it was politically correct for a comedian (like Foster Brooks) to make people laugh by pretending to be drunk?

Do you remember when it would never even cross your mind that an airline pilot might be drunk in the cockpit?

. . . and now, Dean Martin and Johnny Carson have died of lung cancer, respiratory failure and emphysema . . . and Foster Brooks died due to cirrhosis of the liver.  (Okay, I made up that Foster Brooks/cirrhosis of the liver thing . . . for all I know he was a teetotaler . . . but it would make my point more ironically sad).

Anyway, we now find out that thirteen pilots violated the FAA’s version of drunken-driving rules in 2008, the most recent year for which data is available . . . and that’s just the one’s that got caught!

I have no point that I’m trying to make . . . I thought I did when I started, but I lost it.
