Press Release Posted by Jerad Portner, CMO of Doit Group, S.A.:
With the recent press release from Air Canada stating that their subsidiary company, Air Canada Vacations, will be offering charter flights direct to Costa Rica and especially the Liberia, Guanacaste area, this makes for good news for Canadians who’ve been desiring an easy, more affordable means to travel to Costa Rica.
Over the past few years, the popularity of Costa Rica amongst Canadians has amplified substantially. Now with airlines like Air Canada adding more flights to the area, this is sure to increase even more so.
Air Canada offers a subsidiary service of charter flights called Air Canada Sun Vacations, and it is here that one of the destinations became Costa Rica. Air Canada has always flown to Costa Rica however there has never been a charter service of direct flights at exceptionally lower fares than average.
Air Canada announced that they will be offering 48 flights a week to Costa Rica including to the newly expanded and renovated, Liberia International airport in Guanacaste.
Liberia is rapidly becoming the hotspot in Costa Rica for business travelers and tourists alike. With the rise in medical tourism attention through mainstream media, the area is bracing themselves for the expected influx in foreign visitors to the region.
Clinica Biblica (JCI accredited), Costa Rica’s largest private hospital, recently announced their commitment to building their new, hi-tech hospital complex of some $40 million, in Guanacaste only a short 4 minute drive from the Liberia airport in a development project called the Sun Ranch Project. The project is already approved and is predicted to be the premium Costa Rica retirement location in the country and possibly Central America.
Also earlier this month, the tourism minister in Costa Rica, Carlos Ricardo Benavides, announced an agreement between Europe’s largest travel agency, TIU that would see direct flights from Düsseldorf Germany to the Liberia International airport via the famed Airbus. Carlos is quoted as saying, ”Costa Rica will be the first country in Central America to receive TIU flights.”
The Daniel Oduber airport in Liberia was also recently approved for an expansion project to extend the passenger processing capacity to 1500 simultaneously via the construction of a $35 million dollar terminal. It is expected that over the next few years, the Liberia International airport will become the business hub for the entire Pacific Coast of Costa Rica and in turn increasing the popularity of Guanacaste even more so than it already is.
John Scheman of the Costa Rica charity, the Doit Foundation and acclaimed Papagayo Doit Center in Guanacaste expects that with the rise in interest amongst developers and sub-developers in the area, the world will begin to open their eyes to the opportunities that Liberia has to offer. John is quoted as saying, ”We are excited at the projections for the future of the Liberia area and anticipate these numbers to continue rising.”
Currently there are large numbers of Canadians who’ve either invested or are currently considering investment opportunities in the country. Of the country’s 200,000+ expats, a large percentile of them are from Canada and this number rises annually.
