I recently had the pleasure of dining at El Coconut Restaurant in Tamarindo. The food was excellent! Lobster is clearly the specialty of the house – I had the Seafood Soup, which was topped with a small half lobster tail. Others in our party had pasta with lobster that looked delicious.
Good news for those in the Potrero / Flamingo area . . . El Coconut is opening (has opened?) a new restaurant in the former Monte Carlo location (west of El Castillo, towards the water).
Facebook is launching (has launched?) a new feature that lets you share your location throughout the day. I think it should be called “I Want to Get Robbed” . . . or “Kidnap Me, Please”.
You may have read my praise of the book “The Septic’s Companion” in prior posts. It is subtitled “A mercifully brief guide to British culture and language” and it is very informative and hilarious.
The British have some very colorful slang . . . I particularly like their many words or phrases for “sex”, such as “how’s your father”. (Often used in the phrase “a bit of how’s your father” and generally accompanied by a knowing wink) or “get your end away”. (I think our dog’s been getting his end away with that St. Bernard down the street).
You can get a taste of the fun at author Chris Rae’s Web site, http://septicscompanion.com.
By the way, a “septic” is an American. (Hey, did you hear Bob had moved to New York and married a septic?) It comes from Cockney rhyming slang: “septic tank” / “yank,” where “yank” is in turn used in the U.K. to mean “American.” (Apparently, the Australians use the same term and have further abbreviated “septic” to “seppo.”)
Is it just me, or is the “Shit My Dad Says“ phenomenon dying an agonizing death, due to over-exposure. The original Twitter posts were hilarious. The book was just okay. The television series completely sucks. (Has it been canceled, yet.)
It’s like taking a great Saturday Night Live sketch and trying to stretch it into a full length movie . . . it inevitably sucks badly.
Here’s a couple of Costa Rica-based Web sites that you should check out. They’re slowly but surely attracting a following.Costa Rica Swap Meet is a site that lets you sell, buy, or trade anything. For large transactions (vehicles, real estate, etc.) the site features a secure escrow service.
EGF Costa Rica Community is a free social site for residents of, and visitors (or potential) visitors to Costa Rica. You can meet new people who share an interest in Costa Rica, participate in a forum or group (or form your own), start your own free blog, chat, post classified ads, post videos, photos, or music (a great way for local musicians to promote their music).
When enough people find out about the site and sign up, it should be a very informative and fun site.
It’s very interesting to see what people are “tweeting” about Costa Rica, which you can do if you visit Tweet Costa Rica.
Anita from Radio Flamingo (96.9 FM) informs me that the recent heavy rainfalls compromised some antennae equipment, which greatly decreased the range of the stations signal. She says that the problem has been located and new equipment is being installed today . . . there may be a few minutes of dead air today (October 12) while the equipment is switched out. Thereafter, however, there should be a much stronger signal for Potrero, Brasilito, Conchal, etc
