    Kitty Malone Travel

Here are some travel tips from Ms. Malone at Kitty Malone Travel:

If you’re in England and you’re writing postcards to send back home, be carefulPostage Stamp Queen UK how you place the stamp. If the stamp shows an image of the Queen, it could be considered an act of treason if you stick it on upside down.

    • Everyone knows that Paris is a very romantic city . . . but don’t get carried away and give your sweetheart a kiss on the Metro, because it’s illegal to do so on any railway in France. (You can sunbathe naked and it’s not unusal for a man to openly have a mistress . . . but be sure you don’t kiss on a train!).

    • This is scary.  Steer clear of any lover’s quarrels whilst visiting Hong Kong! It’s completely legal for a betrayed wife to kill her husband, but only by using her bare hands; however, if she decides to go after her husband’s mistress, she may kill her using any manner she chooses!
  • Dubai has luxurious resorts and stunning beaches – the ideal place to spend a romantic holiday . . . but don’t get too affectionate – kissing in public here is illegal (and, believe it or not, many tourists have fallen foul of this law in recent years). (Claudia: I hope you didn’t kiss anyone in public when you were in Dubai).

  • Although the act of “adjusting” themselves may seem to be a common practice by many men, in Italy it is illegal for males to touch their genitals through their clothing in public. Formerly thought to be a way of warding off bad luck, grabbing the crotch has been illegal since 2008. (I think this should be a world-wide law, especially applicable to rap and hip-hop artists, baseball players, Adam Lambert, Henry Rollins, Rhianna, politicians, Michael Jackson impersonators, Calvin Klein models, and Roseanne Arnold) . . .
  • Rosanne Bar Arnold

    Adam Lambert

    Henry Rollins

    Michael Jackson

I would however make an exception to the law for people who may have have just suffered a hernia, drunk fat girls that have to pee really bad, as well as drunk guys who believe they are going to puke up their testicles if they don’t hang on to them.

  • Get this: In Mexico, if you’re riding a bicycle, it’s illegal to lift your feet from the pedals since it could cause you to crash. But if you do crash, don’t start shouting profanities in public, because that is illegal, as well. (Doesn’t Mexico have bigger problems than people lifting their feet from the pedals of their bicycle?)
  • durian

    Durian

You think that stinks? How about this: The durian, a fruit native to Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia, has a smell so incredibly strong that it is banned from many public places in South-East Asia.

  • Watch out, binge drinkers and pigeon-feeders! Offences such as feeding pigeons, spitting, urinating and vomiting in the streets are punishable in Prague.  According to the Prague Daily Monitor, people in Prague will be fined CZK1000 ($70) for throwing away cigarette butts, chewing gum, food scraps and other waste, feeding pigeons, failing to remove their dogs’ excrements, spitting, urinating and vomiting in the streets. (I say, “It’s about time they did something about the rampant spitting, urinating and vomiting”! I, myself, don’t recall seeing a lot of that happening in Prague . . . maybe I went to bed too early).
  • I suspect this Prague fountain will seem out of place in the new no-pee city.

  • In 1992, Singapore banned chewing gum completely in order to keep the streets of this super-efficient city clean.  (Note that durians are forbidden, as well).
  • . . . and now we come to my favorite: Flushing a toilet in an apartment in Switzerland after 10:00 p.m. is illegal. It is also against the law for a man to relieve himself whilst standing up after 10:00 p.m. (Agnes . . . Karin . . . is this true?)
  • peeing in switzerland

  • And my last, and most serious, tip is that you read “Gringo Nightmare“. I finished this book a few days ago, following a trip to San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua (where it was somewhat creepy to be in the places where the incidents in the book took place, and to talk to people who knew all the “characters” in the book).  I don’t mean to frighten anyone, but this book is a good reminder that when you’re travelling in a foreign country, you’re not in “Disneyland” and you have to be careful as to what you do.

Thank you, Ethel, for allowing me to write this post.

First of all, my Olympic hockey predictions have been accurate so far.

However, I anticipated that Team USA would trounce Switzerland . . . but it turned into a “nail-biter”.  Finally, after playing two with no goals, the USA scored in the third period.  They managed to hang on to the lead (and add a second open-net goal against desperate Switzerland in the last seconds of the game).  If the United States have to struggle to beat Switzerland, how will they fare against the powerful Czechs (whom I predict will beat Finland)?

More importantly, Canada dominated Russia in the second game of the day.  In what was billed as the match-up of the day, Canada made it look easy, beating the Russians by a one-sided 7 to 3 score.  (This is the first time that the Canadians have beat the Russians in Olympic play since 1960!)

Still to come, tonight, is Finland vs. Czech Republic and Sweden vs. Slovakia.  I stand by my earlier predictions . . . however, I now feel more confident that Canada will eventually take the gold medal.

    Okay, enough hockey for now.

As many of you know, I am employed by EGF Costa Rica Group, a subsidiary of EGF International Group.  My company has (had) a travel reservation Web site called EGF Reservations.

Well, a couple of weeks ago, a young lady named Kitty Malone (originally from the UK, but now calling Italy her home) came to Costa Rica and met with Bert Fegg (my boss), me and a couple of other people from our company.  We had a delightful dinner at Marco Polo, at Villagio Flor de Pacífico in Potrero (and were serenaded by Don Carlos).

This little Kitty Malone girl is a spunky thing, and she laid out an offer to purchase EGF Reservations that Bert was tempted to take.  (Apparently, a very close friend of hers – whose initials are L.V. –  is her financial backer).

After some more vino, an agreement was reached to merge the two travel services.  It was agreed that the new merged company would do business under the name “Kitty Malone Travel”.

The handshakes were done, the paperwork was prepared and, as of today, EGF Reservations and Kitty Malone Travel have merged and are now doing business as Kitty Malone Travel.

If you are looking for great deals on hotel reservations, flights, car rentals, cruises, road trips, vacation rentals, etc., please visit Kitty Malone Travel.

seat-guruSeatGuru.com  is a free service that provides you with a detailed, color-coded layout of virtually any airplane to help you find the best seats with the most leg room, whilst avoiding non-reclining seats close to the toilets.

seat-guru21Here’s a Bonus Tip I picked up from PC World Magazine (which I subscribe to digitally . . . because I live in Costa Rica):

Not that we’re advocating messing with your airline seat (or with other passengers), but if you’re desperate to prevent the person in front from reclining into your precious space, try wedging a water bottle between your open tray and the seat in front of you.
